Black Pepper Bacon Spread - The Bacon Jams (Updated)

Black Pepper Bacon Spread from the Bacon Jams.

It's appearance wasn't all that great. Tasted more like a sweet bbq sauce with some smokiness. Black pepper comes in at the end.

Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin IPA

95 BA score on Beer Advocate. 99 overall and 100 style scores on RateBeer.

INDIA PALE ALE WITH GRAPEFRUIT
Our award-winning IPA, with a citrus twist.
Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.

Bought a 6 pack on a Sunday evening a few weeks ago at Savor Pint. $16.99 for the 6 pack.

Craft Beer: It's not alcoholism, it's a hobby.

Everytime I get Sculpin or Grapefruit Sculpin, I almost always turn into Beavis.

PBR drinkers are of another type.

They tend to be like above.

I tend to love beers from Ballast Point. My big gripe is that their beers tend to be somewhat expensive. To the point I can get a 12 pack for the price of one 6 pack of Ballast Point. Even a lot of other craft brewers offerings are in the $8.99 to $9.99 price range for a 6 pack.

In keeping with other posts recently, here are some notables from a cemetery. Crown Hill Cemetery located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Howard Garns created Number Place. It was renamed as Sudoku.

A couple bench shaped markers.

A tree stump marker.

John Dilinger.

Was a well known gangster in the 1930s.

PBR drinkers wouldn't know that.
What PBR drinkers need to do.

Edward Black a little over 8 years old when he enlisted to serve in the Civil War. Black is considered the youngest American to serve.

23rd President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison, along with some of his family is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery. Harrison was actually born in North Bend, Ohio.

One of my favorite markers.

Dr. Richard Gatling. Inventor of the Gatling gun.

World War 1 veteran.

Emma Christy Baker.

Marker for a former Chief Fire Engineer.

Booth Tarkington, a writer. He wrote the Magnificent Ambersons.

James Baskett was an actor.

Best known as Uncle Remus in the Disney movie Song Of The South.

Ballast Point's Sculpin is among my favorite beers. Their Grapefruit Sculpin is possibly even better. Thing is that I'm not a fan of grapefruit on its own. But in an IPA, I'm all about the grapefruit. Weird isn't it? Do know some people that hate tomato but love ketchup. It's the same type of weird that when some people say they love beer but say that their favorite beer would be Bud Light, or Miller Lite. That's funny. They think those are beer.

Thing with Ballast Point is that pretty much every single beer of theirs is a reference to a fish. Because what most people associate with beer is fish. Common association isn't it? It's sort of like someone asking what is the first team people think of when mentioning Major League Baseball. It'll be like people thinking of the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds are to MLB as what PBR would be to actual beer.

Poured Grapefruit Sculpin into my favorite glass. Maybe, it's the beer talking, but I want you to know, I love beer.

Decent head along with decent lacing.

Aroma has elements of pine and grapefruit. It would be somewhat weird not to smell the grapefruit in a beer that has it added to it. Some malt is present in the aroma. Taste is what makes the beer. Grapefruit like bitterness is there. Pine helps with the bitterness profile. Citrus notes. My big issue is the malt. I tend not to like malt in an IPA. But in Grapefruit Sculpin, I will give it a pass. That is how great the other flavors in the beer are. The added grapefruit adds to the grapefruit notes from the hops. Grapefruit Sculpin is one of those rare beers that I have given a 5 out of 5 rating on Untappd.
