Flying Dog Carolina Reaper Peach IPA

No official ratings on Beer Advocate or RateBeer as of this post. 3.67 out of 5 on Untappd.

Recently picked up 4 bottles at Savor Pint. $2.59 a piece.

When I first heard about this beer, I was a bit repulsed about it. Mainly due to the peach. Not a big fan of added fruit flavors to beer. Always seemed that added fruit flavoring was just trying to cover up a bad beer. Second, I'm not a big fan of heat/hot spicy foods. But yet, I like garlic.

The chili beer from Cave Creek is just alright. Imagine Budweiser with chilies.

Ghost Scorpion from Elevator Brewing is just horrible. Couldn't make it through a quarter of the beer. My lips and tongue were on fire.

Am a fan of Flying Dog. Have been ignoring their beers lately though. Tend to see their stuff quite a bit, so I tend to get beers I don't see all the time.

Earned the level 2 Wheel Of Styles badge on Untappd. Level 2 is for 10 different styles of beer tried.

Not a big fan of chili beers and fruit beers. Put those two together and I get a beer that didn't sound all that good. I'm fine with fruity notes from the hops. Not a fan of added fruit to beers. Grapefruit Sculpin would be and exception. My tongue also doesn't tolerate spice all that well. I'm fine with just enough spice to know the heat is there. Don't get all the people that enjoy the pain from the heat. Would rather actually taste the food.

Poured into a Great Divide glass. Alright head and lacing. Do get peach in the aroma. Don't get much else in the aroma. Taste does have some slightly peachy notes. Peach is quickly overpowered by the spice. The more I drink, the more the heat builds up. Not quite as bad as the Ghost Scorpion beer. It seems that Carolina Reaper Peach is a bit more of a drinkable beer. Peach does seem to help cut the heat just a tad. Not a beer I could drink all the time. Rated it 3.5 out of 5 on Untappd. Liked it more than I expected. Certainly a beer meant to be sipped and not gulped.

Warped Wing Bier Baron Bavarian IPA

No ratings on RateBeer or Beer Advocate as of this post. 3.8 out of 5 on Untappd.

Dayton, Circa 1850. A determined Bavarian immigrant readies his truck for the daily run. His cargo? Barrels of a new libation. Not a lager from the old country. But an India Pale Ale inspired by it. With
everything in line, he makes his deliveries, returns home and collapses to sleep. Bang bang bang!
It’s morning.. Someone is at the door. “Have you heard?” I’m ruined he thought. “You sir, have been
dubbed by all the reigning Baron of Beer!” Bier Baron Bavarian India Pale Ale. Brewed royally with
copious German noble hops. Prosit!

8% ABV
95 IBU

Recently found Warped Wing Bier Baron while browsing. If you guessed I was at Savor Pint, you would be right. Don't get pints at the bar there anymore. Don't really care for the bartenders.

Have been fond of most of Warped Wing's offerings. Plus the artwork is great. Who doesn't like a steam punk like guy?

Recently went to the Ohio History Center.

I was intrigued by the thought of a Bavarian IPA. Figured it was going to be a bit more maltier than an American IPA. Regular readers of this blog know that I'm not the biggest fan of malt in an IPA. Go for hops and citrus.

Malt, hops and citrus are all foreign words to PBR drinkers.

We all know what PBR really is.

Would anyone trust PBR drinkers? This is how they put oil in their car. PBR drinkers don't really notice the lady in the red dress.

PBR drinkers try unusual ways to go up.

PBR drinking starts in the womb.

PBR swillers don['t use their washer for normal things.

One thing I don't get with Warped Wing is the love of 4 packs. Not only 4, packs but 4 packs of 16 ounce cans. Why not a 6 pack of 12 ounce cans? Are Warped Wing trying to go for the growler crowd? I haven't bought a growler in almost 2 years.

It seems the artwork for Bier Baron is a bit on the reserved side for Warped Wing. Some of the lighter colors aren't what some of the other Warped Wing selections offer.

Poured into an 16 ounce English pub glass. Decent head. Not much lacing. Aroma has a bit of malt to it. Kind of reminds me of a Belgian beer as well. Somewhat of a funk to it.

Taste is certainly on the odder side for me. Does have a present malt presence. Tiny bit of citrus to it. Does seem to have a bit of pink bubblegum to it. That is a sign of Belgian presence. Would not think that Bier Baron has an IBU of 95. Bitterness is well hidden. Seems like Bier Baron is a mix of different styles. Rated it 4.25 out of 5, but don't know if I could drink it all the time.
