Lagunitas 12th of Never Ale

3.95 out of 5 on Untappd. 90 BA and 86 Bros scores on Beer Advocate. 95 overall and 98 style scores on RateBeer,

Tropically Hoppy. Light, yet Full-Bodied. Bright and Citrusy. Word.
The magical, mystical 12th of Never is a blend of Old and New School hops that play bright citrus, rich coconut, and papaya-esque flavors, all on a solid stage of English puffed wheat. Tropically hoppy. Light, yet full-bodied. Bright and citrusy. The 12th of Never Ale is everything we’ve learned about making hop-forward beer expressed in a moderate voice.  Pale, cold, slightly alcoholic and bitter.  It’s all we know.

These 12oz mini-kegs (AKA cans) are an exciting new option for us, and we are stoopid stoked at the opportunity for y'all to take us to all those new, nelophobic locations…

Recently picked up a 6 pack from Savor Pint.

First time in a while that I have bought something from Lagunitas. Was browsing Savor Pint looking for something new. Spotted 12th of Never and it seemed like a new beer. Looked it up on Untappd to see if by chance I had it before, which I haven't. It's a fairly new beer.

Lagunitas is another one of those companies that I tend to ignore. See a lot of their beers at quite a few spots. Do like a few of their beers though. But I tend not to stick to one beer or one company for any length of time.

Recently have gone back to Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, Ohio.

My second favorite marker in the cemetery is for a Civil War veteran.

My favorite marker is for F.P. Vergon. There is all sorts of things carved into the tree marker. Owls, birds, birds nest with eggs. Almost always notice something carved in it every time I'm there.

Here is a marker for some of the Minnelli family. They are related to film director Vincente Minelli. He was married to Judy Garland and they had a daughter, Liza Minnelli.

Moses Byxbe. A co founder of Delaware, Ohio and revolutionary war veteran.

Jacob Swegheimer. A Medal Of Honor recipient for actions in the Civil War.

Elijah Sackett. Another revolutionary war veteran.

Cliff Curtis. Curtis was a major league baseball pitcher from 1909 to 1913. In 1910/1911, he set a record of 23 straight losses. The record stood til 1993.

Hiram Perkins. Perkins observatory is named in his honor.

John Freeman Shorter. A member of the 55th Massachusetts Infantry. That unit was a sister unit to the 54th Massachusetts Infantry.

Like the color scheme on the 12th Of Never. The mainly purple is a color I don't usually see a ton on beers. What gets me is the bottle cap logo on a can. Why? I can understand a bottle cap logo on a bottle but not a can.

Don't usually see a lot of pop tops colored different than the top of the can. A lot of times, everything is silver. But not on this one. Sometimes I will see a gold pop top.

I do think I know how Lagunitas got the name of this beer. I think it refers to when Pantera was a good band.

Pantera fans are like the boxer in the red trunks,

Pantera fans at their job.

Pantera fans probably like pumpkin beer as well.

When I read the description of the beer on Lagunitas website, I was a bit turned off by puffed wheat. First thing I thought of was Rice Krispies. Snap, crackle and pop. Not a big fan of wheat beers. Wheat beers always seem to have an odd smell and taste to them. That is when wheat beers actually have a taste. Which is not very often. It's kinda like those beers that use rice. Not very good.

Poured from the can into a Put In Bay brewing company glass. Picked up the glass a few years ago at the brewery. Same time I was watching a drunk guy trying to hitch rides on golf carts.

Color reminds me of a pilsner.  Pilsners are another style that I'm not that fond of. They tend to smell hoppy which I like. Taste is a little too malty for my liking. At least the head was decent, but didn't last that long. No lacing to speak of.

Aroma is a bit on the hoppy side, a plus for me. Taste starts off with that somewhat odd wheat beer flavor that I am not a huge fan of. Citrus is there, but not strong. Does finish with some nice light bitterness. 12th Of Never is one of those odd beers to me. Certain flavors I don't like and some I do. Don't think it's one I would drink all the time. It is still worth checking out though. Rated it 3.75 out of 5 on Untappd.
